The Explosive Sheep Alliance began as an idea by Seneschal, and was turned from idea into an original charter and code of conduct, to a hundred different goals, to finally what it is today. I will attempt, with the space I have available to me, to provide people with an idea of what we are, and to old members to remind them what we've always been, and what we will continue to be.
Why the Explosive Sheep Alliance was founded was to solve a huge problem that I had seen develop between certain guilds, and I wanted to produce a solution that had the fewest casualties. Many of our founding members were part of guilds that did not do any end-game raiding past UBRS, and felt that to venture into any later content, that we had to bring like-minds together. We knew that an alliance among the actual guilds was out of question, so we pooled in friends from other guilds, and struck out into Zul'Gurub in late November. Since that first run, we have built upon the principals of fairness and equal rights of players and classes; something that the officers of ESA will always place paramount in any consensus reached.
Our greatest task has been to keep the Explosive Sheep Alliance a separate entity from any existing guild. We are not under the rules of any set organization, and do not dare encroach upon the guidelines that other guilds may have set for their members. When the raid starts, you are to follow the guidelines ESA has set, and when the raid stops you are no longer under any jurisdiction of the Explosive Sheep Alliance.
We do this is an effort to keep any of the problems and pre-existing dilemmas of any guild outside of ESA's doors. We are not able to help your guild with its crisis, and we don't ask any guild to assist us when we have problems within our borders. We may not have a Tabard or a name above our members' toons, but we do have a right to exist for our purposes of offering a casual and fair raiding environment to those who seek it.
We are not interested in "member-swapping," and frown upon the invitations of one of our members' to another to join their guild. The Explosive Sheep Alliance can only function as its intended when all members are able to join and leave under their own volition. An act of inviting members across guilds within ESA is one of the most serious offenses that you can commit, and will not be tolerated or be dismissed with any excuse.
From day one we have always promoted the act of fairness; whatever your class, whatever your playstyle, whatever your guild. We do not descriminate in any form, and do not give any one member a "better chance." The loot from all our runs is distributed at the time of its drop, and there is no "sharding" nor "banking" system. We do not let a single piece of our hard work go to waste, no matter how meager the item itself seems.
The Explosive Sheep Alliance has seen many obstacles and abuse of this system in the past, and will not tolerate it within our own community of players. Our "main tanks" roll on gear just as the off-tanks, the person at the top of the DPS has worked just as hard as any tank, any healer; the healers have worked as hard as any DPS, any tank. There is no excuse for denying anyone a chance to obtain an item on any run that ESA sponsors. It is a belief that the officers and the members share; it takes team-work to complete the goals we set for ourselves, and there can be no clever-wording that gives us the right to deny anyone anything they have earned fairly.
We the officers do not allow the system to be abused, and we will not stand for any one player to be abused. Any offensive remarks will be dealt with then, and will be treated as their severity calls for. There is no excuse to ever look down at another person within the ESA, and while I can not police people, I hope that this attitude is one our members carry outside of our raids as well. We are all working for the same goal, and that is to have fun. If the officers catch anyone trying to endanger this from being met, we hold no sympathy or pity for you if you are removed from our raids, and there is no promise you will ever be allowed back into one. While we do understand that there is "fun banter," there is a line, and it will not be crossed with the expectation of going back.
Our principals of fairness hold true to our members respective guilds. We are in no way wanting to interfere with what you are trying to do as a unit, and ask that our members remember where their home is, and to not schedule anything with ESA if it will conflict with guild priorities. Again, the Explosive Sheep Alliance can only exist when all our goals of being fair can be met. With this being said, we do hope that guilds understand that ESA can not be the sole blameholder for any problems caused within their core; we can not force anyone to participate with what you do, and we respect everyone's right to spend their monthly fee to play this game how they see fit.
The way we set-up raids was put in place nearly a month ago, due to us leaving many people out who wanted to take part in our events. We felt that to give everyone a fair chance, a sign-up process was put in place, and has since become one of the most successful ideas that's stemmed from any of our attempts to be fair and balanced. Each raid; Monday, Wednesday, and Saturday has a set number of "opening positions" available, depending on what location we are raiding. People are able to sign up for any of the available slots, and once all the slots are full, people are placed "on reserves"--when someone leaves, we call upon one of the reserves to fill in the holes.
While we understand that this is "first come, first serve" we feel that it is not a stretch to visit our forums five-minutes a day to sign up for a raid. If you really wanted to attend it, you'd take that time to be positive that come invite-time, you are the first in line. It also allows our members who can not show up at the start of the raid to have a chance to join us later, and not be wholly excluded just for not being able to be here exactly at the start.
Loot systems are one of the most important parts of any endgame organization, and for ESA it is no different. We pride ourselves in our ability to gear people up who attend, and to give it out fairly, without having to dwell on a DKP system; something that the founder has vowed to never put into place for the Explosive Sheep Alliance. All bosses downed by ESA is put on Master Looter, and based on rolls from those who desire selected items, the rewards are distributed. A more in-depth look at this system is offered in our "Loot Rules" section also in this forum.
We have been scorned for attempting any form of raiding without the DKP system put into place, but our system has never failed us, and will never be brought into question as long as we keep it the honorable system that it is intended to be. DKP can change; numbers appear and disappear, someone may not "keep count" correctly. We do not claim to be math majors, or use human-written mods that are as fallible as their creators. There are no "hidden bids," and each person's roll is public for the entire raid to see. It is a check and balance system, where everything is wide-open to our members, and any mistakes are clearly seen and can not be hidden or "excused." It is of the founder's belief that endgame corruption starts at the top, and that any establishment is only free from it if it can not be allowed to delve into it.
Explosive Sheep Alliance does not use a banking system. All items are distributed at the time of their drop, and nothing is left without a rightful owner. While our officers do not feel that we have any thieves in our company, we do understand that having all our eggs in one basket is foolish and invites trouble. ESA's loot rules and lack of bank is not intended to be of any insult to anyone; we just desire to keep honest players honest.
The charter for ESA closes with this paragraph, and I hope to make the true intent of what we hope to achieve clear. We are an alliance of players dedicated to offer everyone of its members the same rights as the next, and to provide an enjoyable environment to all those within Explosive Sheep Alliance, and to those who are involved with any run sponsored by us. The officers wish everyone the best of luck in their gaming, and are proud to be part of such an amazing establishment of gifted players and people.
